I really recomend this book to the people who likes real life cases, because I think that this type of cases happen a lot. Also I recomend to all girls who likes love stories. It is a very good book, it's not long, it's easy to understand, once you start reading you don't want to stop because if you read first the book and then you see the movie it's more exciting, because the way you imagine the characters, setting, scenes etc, doesn't compare to what really happens in the movie, for example I read first the book because the movie was not yet in the cinema, but when I finish the book I want to se the movie. I have read this book two times, the first that I read was after the movie came out, and the second was for this project, I never get tired of read this book, is so romantic and a very good book. I ashamed to say but I really don't like to read a lot, I like short and brief books, because when a book is long and understandable I get stressed. For me this book have been one of my favorites. If I could change something, I would change the death of Augustus and I will wish to end happily, because I really don't like the sad ends.
If this situation happens to me, the fact that I have cancer and the fact that I live under a depression, I really don't know how I will react, because in some way I am a very sensible person, I don't like to sufer, I am a very friendly person who likes to hangout with my friends and be happy all the time, but one thing I never will give up and I will fight for me.
Hazel Grace is a teenager who lives under depression, sometimes she think it is not worth living because her cancer problem, so the way she talk and express is not convinced, she is a very sarcastic person, she uses a lot of personification and metaphors. She is the narrator in the book and the protagonist in the movie so there are a lot of types of figurative language, because most of the time she is talking. I will put some examples that she uses
"I remember once early on when I couldn't get my breath and it felt like my chest was on fire, flames licking the inside of my ribs fighting for a way to burn out of my body, my parents took me to the ER." - Personification
"...I'm on a roller coaster that only goes up, kid." - Metaphor
"My thoughts are stars I cannot fathom into constellations." - Metaphor
"You'll live forever in our hearts, big man." - hyperbole
Seventeen-year old Hazel Grace Lancaster attends a cancer patients' support group. Because of her cancer, she uses a portable oxygen tank to breathe. In one of the meetings she catches the eye of a teenage boy, and through the course of the meeting she learns the boy’s name is Augustus Waters. He's there to support their mutual friend, Isaac. Isaac had a tumor in one eye that he had removed, and now he has to have his other eye taken out as well. After the meeting ends, Augustus approaches Hazel and tells her she looks like Natalie Portman in V for Vendetta. He invites Hazel to his house to watch the movie, and while hanging out, the two discuss their experiences with cancer. Hazel reveals she has thyroid cancer that has spread to her lungs. Augustus had osteosarcoma, but he is now cancer free after having his leg amputated. Before Augustus takes Hazel home, they agree to read one another’s favorite novels. Augustus gives Hazel The Price of Dawn, and Hazel recommends An Imperial affliction.
Some of the events are connected in the way that most of the characters have the same experience, so all is related, it talks about the same things, but in different persons and manners, so there is conection between characters.
The conflicts are the results of their problems, many of the teenagers who have some type of illness, diary are dealing with different kind of problems.
The title is inspired from Act 1, Scene 2 of Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar, in which the noble man Cassius says to Brutus: "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are underlings."
But if i could put my own meaning that relates the title with the book or the movie, I will think that both, Hazel and Augustus live under the same sitution literally in the same star, also because in my opinion the stars are the most incredible thing where is god and our angels, everyone can thing different things about the title, the importance is that you find your own meaning
